Haunted Homestead

Granny's House

In April 2004, I received this photograph from kskisner@verizon.net. "My grandparents lived in this house and raised a family here. We have many many happy memories at this home," Kim wrote. "A few years ago, while I was pregnant with my daughter--now age 2 1/2, I had a dream that I just have never been able to shake. I dreamed that myself and my aunt had gone back to my grandparents old farm house to look around and just talk about some of the 'good ol days.' In the dream, while we were there, I looked in the window and saw my grandmother looking out at us. At the time of the dream, both of my grandparents had already died. In the dream my granddmother came out and actually talked to us.

"The Saturday before Easter of this year, my aunt and I went to the house to take some pictures. I was going to use the still pics to introduce some old home videos. Kinda like...'If this house could tell a story... These are the stories it would tell' and fade into the home movies. Since both of my grandparents have passed away, the video was going to have alot of pictures of the two of them for the rest of the family to enjoy.

"When I took this picture using a 3.0 mega pixal digital camera, I saw just the house and nothing more. I took the pics and didnt really look at them until about a week later...On the porch there is a door and I see a white figure standing there--small and with what looks like a white shirt on and arms placed as though they are resting on the door. My grandmother weighed only 80 pounds when she passed away. At her most heavy, while pregnant with twins, she still weighed less than 120 pounds. So my family and I feel that the figure in the door in the white could be a 'part' of her."

When Kim and I exchanged e-mails, I told her that odds are this picture is not paranormal, but a chance combination of shapes and reflections. However, I cannot be certain it is not her grandmother's spirit. In fact, as touched as I am by Kim's story, I do hope that it is granny, and that there's life in the old homestead yet.
